The impacts of agricultural support on enhancing the efficiency, competitiveness and sustainability of sheep breeding: The case of Niğde and Aksaray provinces, Turkey

Aim of the study: The sheep breeding sector in Turkey has lost its potential to become a highly competitive and efficient despite number policies being implemented over years. Therefore, objective study was empirically evaluate competitiveness determinants technical efficiency as well current impacts agricultural on performance sector.Area Niğde Aksaray provinces TR71 region Turkey.Material methods: required primary data were obtained through face-to-face survey from 110 breeders. Two methodological approaches, namely Stochastic Frontier Analysis Policy Matrix, used.Main results: support caused an inefficiency allocation already scarce resources breeding, but not ensure increase at both national international levels. Sheep farms could their income by up 50% without changing level input taking into account factors that breeding. major decreased subsidies for herd size excessive utilization family labour, while increased race, access extension services, grazing period location. Besides, Domestic Resource Cost (DRC) value 0.88, implying they had comparative advantage.Research highlights: Implementation structural with long term would enhance sustainability sector.
